Backup to CD or DVD

Safe Data Backup supports backing up to CD or DVD discs, including spanning multiple discs.  This support is only available under Windows XP or later.  If you are using an earlier version of Windows you will need to use third party disc burning software as described below.

Windows XP or Later

On the General tab of the configuration editor, select your CD/DVD burner as the destination drive.  During the backup operation you will be prompted to insert your backup media (blank CD or DVD) at the appropriate time.  (Windows XP only supports burning CDs, not DVDs.  Use the instructions below for burning DVDs under XP.)

Multiple Disc Spanning:  If your backup is too large for a single disc, Safe Data Backup will automatically span multiple discs.  When spanning, you must use blank discs of the same size.  In order to span discs, you must only be using compressed backups (the uncompressed option must be off).  Your preferences for splitting your compressed backup will automatically be overridden with the appropriate values for your inserted media.

Windows 98, ME, 2000, NT, or XP

On the General tab of the configuration editor, select your CD/DVD burner as the destination drive.  Prior to running the backup job use your own third party CD/DVD burning software to enable this drive for writing by other applications.  This is often referred to as "Drag-to-Disc", "DirectCD", "InCD", or "Drive Letter Access (DLA)".  Once your drive is prepared by the third party burning software, you can then run your backup.

Multiple Disc Spanning:  If your backup is too large for a single disc you must first perform a split compressed backup to a hard drive, and then burn the split ZIP parts to discs using third party disc burning software.
