This dialog is used to filter which categories of addresses are displayed in the Address List. To access this dialog use the View/Categories... menu command, or press the Categories button on the Tool Bar.
A list of available categories is displayed. If any of your addresses belong to a category that is not in your Category List, then there will also be one unique entry, labeled <All Other>. This entry applies to all categories not in the category list. To select a category, place a check mark next to it. You can also use the Select All and Select None buttons to quickly select/unselect all categories.
There are 3 different types of filtering that can be applied.
In Any Selected Category |
If an address belongs in any of the categories selected, it will be displayed. |
Not In Any Selected Category |
If an address does not belong to any of the categories selected, it will be displayed. This filtering type can be useful to find addresses that you want to belong in a category, but aren't currently assigned to that category. For example, you can select this filtering type, and choose a category, such as "Holiday Cards". Then, you can quickly see which addresses are not in your "Holiday Card" category. |
In All Selected Categories |
An address must belong to all of the selected categories selected, in order to be displayed. For example, you could turn on the "Holiday Card" and "Personal" categories. Only addresses in both of these categories would be displayed, so if an address belonged to the "Holiday Card" and "Business" categories, but not the "Personal" category it would not be displayed. |
To modify the category list, choose the Edit Category List... button.
The status of category filtering is displayed in the Status Bar.
