Import Options

From the Import page in the Options dialog, you can use the following features:

US Holidays

Press the "Add to Calendar" button to add all of the most common holidays in the United States to your calendar.  The new holiday events are created with the options specified under the New Event Default Options Page.

Import iCalendar (*.ics) File

This feature allows you to import events from an iCalendar file.  iCalendar files are a common method to transfer calendar events between different calendaring programs.  iCalendar files can be exported from many popular calendaring programs and are also available for download from sites like iCalShare.com.

Imported events can be assigned to any number of categories.  Enter the category names, or choose the Categories... button to assign the imported events to selected categories.

For imported events that repeat yearly you can choose the event type.  New events are created with the options specified under the New Event Default Options Page, unless different values are specified in the iCalendar file.

Related Tip:  Remind-Me can also "export" iCalendar files.  Select one or more events, and then right mouse click and choose an option from the "iCalendar" menu.  You can either forward an iCalendar file by email, or save the iCalendar file to disk.  To control whether Remind-Me includes alarm information in the exported iCalendar files, see the Other Options Dialog and iCalendar Export Options.

Default iCalendar Handler

The current program assigned to handle opening iCalendar files is displayed.  To make Remind-Me the default program for opening iCalendar files, go into Window's Settings, and search for "Choose default apps by file type".  Scroll down to .ics and select Remind-Me.  Also in Window's Settings, search for "Choose default apps by protocol".  Scroll down to WEBCAL and select Remind-Me.

Remind-Me supports opening iCalendar files via the command line, drag and drop, or via this import dialog.  To use drag and drop, just drop any iCalendar (*.ics) file on the main Remind-Me window.

In addition to "importing" an iCalendar file, you can also subscribe to a calendar on the Subscribe page in the Options dialog.
