Remote Backup via E-Mail
For extra safety you can back up your data to a remote location using e-mail.
By having an offsite backup you greatly improve the safety of your backed up
data.
To enable the remote e-mail backup, turn on the compressed backup option
under the Advanced tab in the configuration
properties dialog. Select the
button and then the tab.
Fill in this dialog with the requested information. You can send the
e-mail using either a Simple MAPI compliant e-mail program,
or by sending the e-mail directly to your SMTP mail server.
Once you have filled in this dialog, press the button to send a small test e-mail. This will
verify that all of your settings are correct.
Some important points about using the e-mail backup feature:
- By default you must enable encryption on your compressed backup before you
can use the e-mail backup. Although it is not recommended, you can
override this behavior by turning off the option .
- When choosing an e-mail address to send your backup to, make sure this
e-mail will remain on a remote mail server. For example, you would not
want to send to an e-mail address that you will later download the e-mail to
your local computer. E-mail addresses such as Yahoo make a good choice,
as this e-mail will remain on the remote mail server.
- You should always encrypt your compressed backup, and use a
strong password, to make sure only you can ever
access your compressed backup.
- Safe Data Backup supports retrying failed e-mails when sent using the SMTP
method. See
