This dialog is available by selecting the File / Options... menu command. These options apply globally, to all data backup configurations.
Show Log After Scheduled Job with Warnings or Errors |
This option applies only to jobs
that were started automatically (as a scheduled
job). It does not apply to jobs started manually from within the
program. When this option is on, and the data backup job completes
with any warnings or errors, that job's log will be displayed. If the
job completes successfully, no log will be displayed. This helps make
sure you are aware of any errors or warnings that happen from scheduled
jobs. Manually started jobs will always inform you of their completion status with a message box when the job completes. |
Manage CD/DVD Burning |
This option is only available when you are using Windows XP or later. With this option on, Safe Data Backup manages burning your data backup to CD or DVD. You can turn this option off to utilize your own disc burning software. |
Warn When Adding Unnecessary Excluded Items |
This option determines whether you will get a warning message when you add a file or folder to the excluded list, and that file/folder is not in any of your backup sources. Since the file/folder is not in any of your backup sources, it is not necessary to specify it as an excluded item. The warning message can be useful if you were expecting this file/folder to be in a backup source. See Filter Options. |
Confirm Before Exiting When Using Internal Scheduler |
When this option is on, and there are scheduled jobs using the internal scheduler, you will get a warning when exiting the program. Safe Data Backup must be running for any scheduled jobs using the internal scheduler to start. See Backup Configurations - Schedule Properties. |
Never Allow Non-Encrypted Remote Backup |
This option prevents any remote backup from occurring when the compressed ZIP file has not been encrypted. To prevent unauthorized access you should always encrypt any remote backup. Although it is not recommended, you can turn off this option if you want to be able to remotely backup a ZIP file that is not encrypted. |
Backup Locked/Open Files |
This option allows files currently locked or in use by other applications, to be successfully backed up. This feature makes use of a Windows service called "Volume Shadow Service". This feature is only available on Windows XP or later. |
Remove Excluded Files/Folders from Uncompressed Backup |
When this option is on, your uncompressed backups will only contain the files currently specified for backup. If you have previously backed up some files, and then removed a backup source from the configuration's definition, your backup destination would still contain those previously backed up files. When this option is on, the next time you run the data backup, those previously specified (and currently un-specified) files would be removed from your backup destination. For example: If you initially run a data backup that specifies 2 backup source files:
Your backup destination would contain both of these files. Assume you then modified this data backup configuration, and removed File2.txt from the backup sources or added it to the excluded file list. If you then ran the data backup job again with this option on, File2.txt would be removed from your backup destination. If instead, you had this option off when you ran it again, the File2.txt would be left in your backup destination, even though it is no longer specified as a backup source. (Note that this option does not relate to files you delete. Deleted files that are in a backup source will always be removed from the backup destination, and optionally placed into the Deleted folder hierarchy. This option is only relating to files that used to be specified in the configuration for backup , but aren't anymore.) |
Launch Safe Data Backup When Windows Starts |
Adds a shortcut to your Startup folder in Windows, so that Safe Data Backup will launch when you log into Windows. Safe Data Backup will be started up hidden to the task tray. This option may be useful when using the internal scheduler. |
Verbose Logging |
Turn on this option to get detailed logging of the data backup operation. Normally you would leave this option off, as the log files can grow large when this option is left on. This option can be useful on a temporary basis to see exactly what is happening during the data backup. Even when this option is off you will still receive detailed information on any warning or error conditions. |
Verbose ZIP File Logging |
Turn on this option to get detailed logging of the compression operation. Normally you would leave this option off to reduce the log file size, and also decrease compression time. Even when this option is off you will still get detailed information on any warnings or errors from the compression operation. |
Resume Broken FTP Connection X Times |
Specify how many times to re-try uploading the remote backup via FTP. Safe Data Backup supports resuming broken upload connections. The upload is resumed in a smart manner, so that subsequent uploads continue on from where the last upload left off. On very large uploads it is not uncommon for connectivity issues to cause more than 1 upload attempt to be required. |
Retry Failed SMTP E-Mail X Times |
Specify how many times to attempt to send the remote backup via E-Mail. If any error occurs during the sending of the e-mail, Safe Data Backup will re-try this many times to send the e-mail. This option only applies when using the SMTP sending method, and not the MAPI sending method. |
SMTP Mail Server Send Timeout: X Seconds |
Specify the timeout period, in seconds, to use when sending data to the SMTP e-mail server. |
SMTP Mail Server Receive Timeout: X Seconds |
Specify the timeout period, in seconds, to use when receiving data from the SMTP e-mail server. |
Toolbar Button Size: |
Select a preference for the toolbar button size. The "Automatic" option will set the optimum button size based on the monitor resolution (DPI). |
E-mail Job Results: |
Select when to e-mail the results of a job. Press the Configure... button to specify where the e-mail should be sent, and the specifics of how to send it, such as the name of your mail server, etc. See E-mail Job Results Dialog. |
